Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the biggest festivals in India. It is celebrated as a day to commemorate the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, hope over despair, and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali preparations in India involves the cleaning, renovation, and decoration of workplaces and homes, after which, they are spectacularly illuminated with lights and earthen lamps. Celebrators adorn themselves with their finest ethnic clothing, light fireworks, and take part in family feasts where sweets and presents are exchanged, as Diwali marks the start of a new year as per the Hindu calendar. With gratitude in their hearts for all the blessings that they have received in life, revelers offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, to shower wealth and good fortune on them, and bless them with good luck for the year ahead. Workplaces in India encourage employees to dress up in ethnic attires as part of their Diwali festivities, since it is a custom in India to put on traditional clothing during festivals, and this trend is followed by Silicon IT Hub too. Decorations and vibrant gatherings were all a part of the ecstasy here. Since Diwali was on a Sunday this year, it was celebrated on 25th October 2019 at Silicon IT Hub and it was a very special day for the Siliconians as the celebrations included the entire Silicon family. 25th October was declared as a Traditional Day and an announcement was made requesting the entire team to come in a traditional dress to the office. The dress code for boys was kurta pajama and for girls, a saree or any other ethnic wear of their choice. Special prizes were declared for the best-dressed male and female in the team. Everyone was super excited and was looking forward to the celebrations. Preparations for the celebrations began one day before, which included decorating the office premises with beautiful decorative items and a magnificent rangoli (a hand-made pattern drawn on the ground using colored grain, colored sand or flower petals), decorating the office space and some candid photography. The girl gang in the office took up the responsibility of decorating the office premises with the boys helping them with the decoration work. As planned, the Siliconians assembled in the office and began the day by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. The prayer was followed by loud cheery music played in the office, making way for the grand celebrations. The team then gathered for the much-awaited photography session outside the office premises. The entire Silicon family was excited to be in one frame. With such a large group, it seemed difficult to get everyone in a single frame, but our expert photographers managed to do it. The various clicks included a formal team photo, clicks of the girls and the boys in different poses, and clicks of the team in various formations. The photoshoot looked vivid with people decked in colorful attires. Everyone then took selfies with their friends. This was followed by a lunch break. After lunch, the team gathered to play some games, which added liveliness to the celebrations. The entire team took part in the games and enjoyed all the fun and frolic thoroughly. It was indeed mesmerizing to see everyone participate with so much enthusiasm. The grand celebrations culminated with the management distributing sweets and Diwali presents to the entire staff. The prizes for the best traditional attire were won by Swati Modi among the girls and Vaibhav Trivedi among the boys. Everyone was in a cheerful and happy mood, and eager to go home and spend the Diwali holidays with their families at the same time. It was indeed a day that gave us innumerable memories to cherish. An incredible celebration like this wouldn’t have been possible without the participation of every member of the Silicon family. We appreciate the management for making our Diwali a memorable one.
